When ER/Urgent Care is the Best
Go to ER / Urgent Care if
- Blood sugar < 54 mg/dL, seizure, or loss of consciousness.
- Blood sugar > 300–350 mg/dL for hours with vomiting, abdominal pain, rapid breathing, or moderate/large amount of ketones (possible DKA).
- Unable to keep fluids down (vomiting >6–8 hrs) or signs of dehydration.
- Chest pain, shortness of breath, stroke-like symptoms, or sudden vision loss.
- Rapidly worsening infection, especially a foot wound with redness/swelling/fever.
