When urgent care/ER is best

Go to ER / Urgent Care if:

Severe chest pain, shortness of breath, or stroke-like symptoms.
Blood sugar < 54 mg/dL (with confusion/seizure) or > 300–350 mg/dL for hours with vomiting, abdominal pain, rapid breathing, or moderate/large ketones.
Severe muscle pain/weakness or dark urine after starting a new medicine.
Allergic reaction: swelling, hives, or trouble breathing.

How a Visit Works

Assess & reconcile

Bring all meds (including OTC/supplements). We review conditions, goals, side-effects, home logs, and targeted labs (e.g., BMP/CMP, A1C, lipids, urine ACR, TSH as indicated).

Adjust & coordinate

Titrate/stop/swap meds when appropriate, simplify timing (once-daily where possible), align refills, and coordinate specialists with a shared plan.

Follow‑up

Return in 4–12 weeks to review results and side-effects, fine-tune dosing, and set monitoring intervals. Once stable, follow-ups every 3–6 months.

Insurance & billing

Most PPO plans accepted; we’ll verify benefits. Medication coverage varies by pharmacy benefit; prior authorization is handled when required. Preventive-only benefits may not apply if the visit focuses on medical problems
